Forgive the omissions from the preious msg. Don't know what happened. Fleur.

Dan Roderick sounds like a typical AM radio station announcer. He’s not too bright and sometimes his questions are embarassing. Whether the program is “state-wide” or not hasn’t registered because it’s an accident when I do listen. We listen to Diane Rheem on 88.1 because the reception is better that 88.5 on the Eastern Shore, but as soon as she’s over, we go elsewhere on the dial. The spring fund raiser? Ha, it’s not believable that they collected a significant amount of $$. And where are the callers from Marc’s show? Not once have we heard from Jerry in Pikesville–oh what a refreshing (and sometimes combative) voice he lent to Marc’s show. Part of the attraction to Marc’s show was the callers. Granted, in Chestertown we aren’t that interested in the perpetual problems of Baltimore because of our location. Eastern Shore listeners are removed from the day-to-day events at the actual building, and we don’t read the Sun, so I am glad this blog exists so we can keep up to date.
And finally “F**k you, Tony Branden.”

Awating moderation? What ever happened to free speech for the Left AND Right?

Tom--We approve every single comment, positive or negative, friendly or not, unless it is spam. We have to keep these comments moderated or they would become overrun with spam and advertisements. I assure you, the purpose of moderation is not some nefarious plan to silence people who don't agree with Marc. If you look through the comments throughout the blogs, there is ample disagreement with his point of view. -Jessica

Marc, stop whining.

You are gone because you took a consistent, Left wing, anti-capitalist rant of "reasoning" everytime you spoke. Your positions are best described by one of your blogger's quotes: "As Rich Little apparently said, channeling Reagan, “yes, we had a war on poverty, and the poor lost.” The class wars in our culture are being waged by the rich on the poor. Yet what we hear all the time is accusations against progressives and populists that what they want is a class war. Well, the best defense is a good offense, right? "

Well, there you go. Forget the recovery of America under Reagan, after the horrific economic recession and foreign policy debacles of Carter. Does anyone remember our international humiliation with a year of hostages in Iran, which ended the day Reagan was inaugurated, because the mullahs were petrified that Reagan had the guts to intercede, unlike Neville Carter?.

Marc, take a Finance, Economics, or History course. Understand that tax cuts INCREASE revenues. This is an empircal fact beyond dispute. The issue is SPENDING, stupid! While I am at it, realize that radical Islam and other fanatics don't understand Socratic reasoning. They understand force.

The world is a cruel place. Capitalism and American success depend upon those who work hard and take advantage of our nation's democratic opportunities. They are out there for everyone. Those who don't want to take advantage of our opportunities can suck it up. We who work hard are sick and tired of the whining.

You were fired because you never understood what has made America great, nor did you bother to ever listen to the other side.

Now, let the bleeding hearts who support you excoriate me!

Kind regards!!!!

I was at the meeting on Tues., April 15th. I was very impressed by the CAB's report to the WYPR"s BoD. What followed impressed me, but in a negative way. It seemed that with enough money and power you can bend the truth to suit your needs. That is exactly what the BoD attempted to do. They were met with the repudiation from the audience as we challenged their fabrications. I have even more admiration for Marc Steiner for continually getting back "in the ring" with these dangerous and arrogant people on a daily basis. I believe he did it for us. We thought we were the Public in WYPR. We now know the Public has been bought out. If people like Ralph Moore, Jr. and others on the CAB resign the BoD wins and we all lose. I hope this will be a time for the CAB to become even stronger. I thank them all. Jane Meyer

From the printed version,

WYPR Community Advisory Board recommendations at the April 15 meeting of the Your Public Radio Corporation BoD {footnote 1}:

Statement by Larry Kloze:

Several observations frame the recommendations:

The WYPR Board needs to make a public acknowledgement that it made mistakes in handling the Marc Steiner situation and communication with the CAB.

The WYPR Board can't pretend that the way recent events unfolded was appropriate.

The CAB believes decisions were made that imperiled the station.

Statement by Sherrilyn Ifill:

Based on the overwhelming public response {footnote 2}, we recommend that Marc Steiner be invited back to resume his duties as host of a public affairs program.

Statement by Ralph Moore:

There should be a timely external audit of the station's governance by a nationally recognized expert, whith the findings publically released.

The Board should be more representative of the public that it serves - more African-Americans, and also all kinds of persons of different ages, backgrounds, races, religions, socio-economic levels, and education.

(Mr. Moore vamped a little bit on the 1962 thing.)

Statement by Nancy Haragan:

To represent the community effectively, the CAB will need to develop a mission statement, by-laws, and goals, and define its roles and responsibilities regarding p0licy decisions and programming philosophy. This will require information, transparency, and suppprt from the WYPR staff and Board. We expect to facilitate better community representation with substance and meaning, and to develop a mutual respect and positive working relationship with WYPR. As a first step, we expect the WYPR Board to respond to all of these recommendations in a complete, timely, and transparent manner.

---------------------------------------------------------------

{Footnote 1}: These recommendations are made following two public CAB meetings (February 20 and April 1, 2008), three Steering Committee Working Sessions (February 13, April 7, and April 14, 2008), and an informational meeting with WYPR Management and Trustees (March 12, 2008).

{Footnote 2}: This recommendation is based on evidence of public support for Marc Steiner's return. On February 20, 2008, the CAB held a well advertised public meeting. Over 300 persons attended; nearly 60 participants testified; and 17 comment cards and a petition with 502 signatures were submitted. All protested cancellation of the Steiner show. Many online letters to the editor were also received by the Baltimore Sun, the majority in strong opposition to the cancellation. Individuals and groups have consistently held protests outside the staition. Grassroots organizations and websites have sprung up, supporting the return of the Steiner show. An online petition, urging the Board to "Bring Marc Steiner Back to YPR" received over 1,039 signatures. The Petition Site. The CAB requested documentation of a contrary community point of view from the WYPR Board before their March 12th meeting, but none was provided.

The only thing I am 'getting sick of' is hearing more about the management of WYPR and of how they run the station. Making 'ad hominem' statements about the managers only tends to muddy the issue. We shouldn't speak of their places of worship or where they go for their 'social life', but of how they have betrayed the good faith of the listeners. No one is 'making trouble'. We are all only exercising and keeping alive our right of free speech.

Start building a new brand somewhere else.!

Isn't this what is happening with the CEM?

People lose their jobs everyday and they need to move on and start a new.!

I think Marc has moved on. He has said that he would not return to W?PR under current management. He is moving forward with several exciting projects involving the CEM. Who knows what other opportunities he may be pursuing that, for obvious reasons, can't yet be disclosed publicly?

Get over it and stop making trouble!

I'm a little confused here. Aside from a few press interviews in the days after the firing, Marc hasn't really said much publicly about the whole situation except here ON HIS OWN BLOG! I don't see how sharing one's own thoughts on one's own blog is "causing trouble". If you're reading this blog, I assume you're not here by accident, so what did you think you'd find here? I think it would have been a little weird if Marc hadn't reacted to what was the first BOD meeting since his firing.

We are all getting sick of it.

Who is this "we" you are referring to? Of the hundreds of blog comments, Sun forum comments, and letters to the editor I've read since the firing, only a handful have expressed similar sentiments.

I think Marc has moved on. He has said that he would not return to W?PR under current management. He is moving forward with several exciting projects involving the CEM. Who knows what other opportunities he may be pursuing that, for obvious reasons, can’t yet be disclosed publicly?

Get over it and stop making trouble!

I’m a little confused here. Aside from a few press interviews in the days after the firing, Marc hasn’t really said much publicly about the whole situation except here ON HIS OWN BLOG! I don’t see how sharing one’s own thoughts on one’s own blog is “causing trouble”. If you’re reading this blog, I assume you’re not here by accident, so what did you think you’d find here? I think it would have been a little weird if Marc hadn’t reacted to what was the first BOD meeting since his firing.

We are all getting sick of it.

Who is this “we” you are referring to? Of the hundreds of blog comments, Sun forum comments, and letters to the editor I’ve read since the firing, only a handful have expressed similar sentiments.

JR,

This isn't about Marc.

This is about me, and if anyone else feels as I do, it is about us. The Steiner Show is what kept me sane at the end of 2004 and through most of 2005.

I cry sometimes when I listen to Bob Edwards Weekend. I don't cry for Edwards, he's doing well, and Marc is too. Every time I listen to Bob Edwards Weekend, however, I am reminded of how much we lost when NPR decided to "go in a new direction." Yuck.
